Over the past twenty year Luis Millán has performed throughout this country and across the world including performances in Vienna, Austria, Shanghai, China, and five tours in Spain that have included solo recitals at the Palacio de Viana in Cordoba, concerts on public television and radio, and duo recitals with his father, Spanish poet Rafael Millán. In 2004, Dr. Millán was Top Prize Winner in the Seattle Ladies Musical Club Young Artist Competition.
This year marks Dr. Millán’s ninth years as Professor of Music at The University of Montana where his duties include serving as Director of Orchestras, and teaching guitar, music theory, and conducting. He also serves as Musical Director of Butte Symphony Orchestra and Montana Lyric Opera.
Dr. Millán received his musical training at Saint Olaf College, where he was graduated with a B.A. in Music in 1991, and Michigan State University, where he received masters and doctorate degrees in orchestral conducting in 1993 and 1997.
Before moving to Montana, Dr. Millán taught at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas; served as Director of Arts Education Programs at Wharton
Center for Performing Arts at Michigan State University; conducted youth symphonies in Jackson and Saginaw, Michigan, and Topeka, Kansas;
directed opera companies in Lansing, Michigan, and taught at the New England Music Camp in Sydney, Maine.
